A MOTTLED GREYISH-GREEN JADE ANIMAL-FORM CENSER
The censer is made in two sections in the shape of a mythical beast standing foursquare with head facing forward. The head, with open jaws, bulging eyes below curved brows, curly mane, pricked ears and a single horn, forms the cover, and the hollow, bulbous body, which forms the censer, is carved with a belled collar above the ribbed chest, flames on the haunches, and an upright, tufted tail. The greyish-olive stone is opaque and suffused with fine buff mottling.
