FOUR SMALL WHITE JADE ANIMAL CARVINGS
17TH/19TH CENTURY
One is carved in openwork as two long-tailed dogs shown recumbent with heads side-by-side, with faint brown markings in the stone on one dog. The second is carved as a recumbent water buffalo grasping a millet stem in its mouth. The third is carved as a recumbent horse with legs tucked under the body and head turned backwards, with incised hair markings on the mane and tail. The fourth is a recumbent goose with head turned backwards and legs tucked under the body as it grasps a lotus stem in its beak.
