SAFAVID SHIRAZ, 16TH CENTURY WITH WAQF DATED DHU'L HIJRA AH 996/NOVEMBER 1587 AD
Arabic manuscript on buff paper, 322ff. plus 8 fly-leaves, each folio with 12ll. of black naskh in panels laid down between gold margins with polychrome rules, gold roundel verse markers, sura headings in white in cartouches of gold surrounded by fine gold and polychrome illumination, gold and polychrome marginal medallion every fifth and tenth verse, the opening bifolium with sura al-fatiha with gold and polychrome illumination, preceded by a double page with two shamsas with similar illumination, sura al-baqara with illuminated headpiece, final bifolium with sura al-nas with similar illumination, followed by a single folio of the falnama, incomplete at end, some areas of wear, waterstaining and spotting, minor repairs to the text, in later red morocco with stamped central medallions and borders
