Lot Essay

Georges Girardot was trained by the artist Albert Maignan in Paris. He was a member of the Society of French painters from 1883 onward and principally showed genre scenes at the Salon. He was awarded several medals for his works. These pictures reflect the artist's interest in mythology. The artist has painstakingly surrounded the nymphs by detailed foliage to evoke a timeless atmosphere.
