Lot Essay

Consigned by the original owner, who bought the present lot in the early 90s at the prestigious Turin retailer Astrua, this Daytona sports a third series dial, the last one with the upside down "6" in the hour sub-register. The present timepiece impresses with its unspoiled condition. Unpolished, the edges of the case are as sharp as ever, the green sticker on the back still present, the numbers and hallmarks on the case practically untouched. The presence of its full sales kit amplifies the appeal of what would already be a remarkably desirable timepiece.

The models belonging to the reference family starting with 165 were made in steel (16520), rolesor (16523), white gold (16519), and yellow gold (16518 and 16528, like the present example). The first Daytona chronograph with an automatic movement, it is powered by a Zenith El Primero calibre with more than 200 modifications.
