12º (145 x 90mm). Woodcut vignette on title. (Without the final blank, repaired tear in two leaves, light spotting.) Contemporary Russian red straight-grained morocco, sides with a gilt-tooled border, turn-ins gilt (neatly rebacked), later slipcase. Provenance: A.I. Markushevich (bookplate).

FIRST EDITION. One of two works published anonymously by the author during his life-time -- the other being The Tales of Belkin. Tsygany appeared, before 10 May 1827, in an edition of possibly 1,200 copies; however during Pushkin's lifetime it was considered a great rarity.
