Lot Essay

Christie's are grateful to Remmelt Daalder of the Scheepvaartmuseum, Amsterdam for suggesting the attribution on the basis of photographs and for suggesting that the vessel in the present work is the Huis te Bloemendal of 200 tons. Built in Amsterdam in 1762, she is known to have sailed to Surinam, a Dutch colony in the Guianas, South America.
