A BLUE AND WHITE 'WINGED DRAGON' BALUSTER VASE
JIAJING PERIOD (1522-1566)
The neck of the vase is decorated with peacocks within a courtyard, above a band of large winged dragons amidst flaming pearls. Each scaly dragon is detailed with a ferocious expression and five claws to each foot. The flaring base is decorated with a sea horse, haima, amongst stylised clouds and above tall rocks and cresting waves.
