A FIVE-FOLD SCREEN WITH INSET SILK 'HUNDRED BIRDS' DESIGN PANELS
19TH CENTURY
The rectangular panels each depict various pairs of birds, embroidered in the style of the Imperial workshops. The lower fan-shaped panels and the upper arch panel each enclose embroideries depicting figures at leisure in fenced gardens and birds in river landscapes. The wood frame is carved and pierced with scrolling dragons amongst ruyi-shaped clouds. The reverse is carved with a foliate design.
Each panel, 83¾ in. (212.5 cm.) high, 30¼ in. (77 cm.) wide
