It is worked in counted stitch with nine five-clawed couched gilt dragons chasing the flaming pearl amongst clouds and bats and above a cresting wave border with lishui stripes.

Lot Essay

Turquoise robes were reserved for Imperial concubines and female members of the Imperial family.
Two imperial turquoise robes were sold at Christie's South Kensington, 6 November 2008, lot 332 and lot 340.
