FIRST EDITION. Between 1791 and 1792, Robert Home followed Lord Cornwallis's army in the Third Anglo-Mysore war. In the late fall of 1792, he turned his focus toward painting India's landscape and completed this work. A copy with interesting provenance: Cornwallis recognized Vane's talent and, with the support of the Duke of York, secured Vane a promotion at a critical time early in his career. Cox I 304.
