Tapering cylindrical and with skirt foot, with scroll handle and slightly domed hinged cover, later applied with foliate strapwork on a matted ground, with later engraved inscription, marked to side, cover and strapwork
13 in. (33.1 cm.) high
72 oz. 5 dwt. (2,248 gr.)
The inscription reads, 'PROSPERITY & SUCCESS / TO THE Londonderry and Seaham / RAILWAY / JANUARY 17TH 1852'.

A pair of important Charles II silver-gilt flagons bearing the same maker's mark were commissioned for Ralph, 1st Earl of Montagu, later 1st Duke of Montagu (1638-1709), sold Christie's, London, 5 July 2000, lot 245.
