This Collection of twelve paintings and calligraphy belonged to Mr Cheung Kwan Shud (Chang Chun-shih, 1912-2003) and has been passed on to his descendants. Mr Chang was an artist and long-standing collector of Chinese paintings. Graduated from the Canton Municipal Arts Institute, he had been under the tutorship of artists in Canton: Li Yaoping (1880-1938), Li Yanshan (1898-1961) and Huang Junbi (1898-1991). The titleslip of Pair of Cranes among Azaleas was by Li Yanshan, and Huang Junbi had inscribed the titleslips for both the calligraphy by Yi Bingshou and Li Jian. Part of Mr Chang's collection were auctioned through Christie's New York in the 1990s.
