Lot Essay

After the failure of the anti-Yuan movement, Sun Yat-sen travelled to Fuzhou from Shanghai in July, 1913. On 3 August, Sun took the Osaka Ferry from Fuzhou Mawei and arrived in Taiwan Jinong on 5 August. To thank the captain Shigetake Yamane for his safe journey, he gifted him with the above two calligraphy pieces.
