First edition, published posthumously and dedicated to Queen Cristina of Sweden. The book consists of 119 letters to and from Descartes, several to Princess Elizabeth of Bohemia (1618-1680), a few to Queen Cristina, Claude Clerselier (1614-1684), Pierre Chanut (1601-1662), and various others with an interest in science and other topics. The second volume appeared in 1659 and the third in 1667. Willems 800.
