Du style de Confucius (Zhongni shi), il repose sur deux petits pieds en forme de boutons, yanzu ('pieds des oies sauvages'). Son corps allongé est rehaussé de sept cordes, xuan, et treize marques rondes en incrustations de nacre, hui. Le dos est agrémenté de sept clés de serrage en bois, zhen, et d'une ouverture sonore rectangulaire, longchi ('étang du dragon' ). L'intérieur du longchi porte une inscription incisée à six caractères Guhang Li Cangwu Zhuo, 'Ce qin est fait par Li Cangwu à Hangzhou'. Il est protégé par un étui en soie brodée et matelassée à décor de canards mandarins ; petits accidents et restaurations.

Lot Essay

The present qin is of Confucius style, characterised by its austere form with simple straight sides. See other Ming examples, bearing names in appellation to its sound, included in the exhibition, 2000 Years of Chinese Lacquer, Hong Kong, 1993 and illustrated by Teo Kheng Chong and Yip Shing Yiu, in the 'Catalogue': no. 113, 'Spring Breeze' and no. 114, 'Bells on a Frosty Day'. Compare to another qin of Confucius style, dated to Ming/Qing dynasty (1368-1911), sold at Christie's New York, 22 March 2012, lot 1331.
