Lot Essay

US$50,000-75,000

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvery opaline-white dial and indexes in yellow gold in 1988 and its subsequent sale on 14 July 1988.

This attractive example is offered here in overall very good and original condition. Indeed, the watch displays a few signs of oxidation, proof that the watch has been mostly stowed away in its safe despite been worn a few times since its purchase in 1988. The hallmarks are sharp and clearly visible and will delight the future owner.

The celebrated reference 3970, successor of the legendary reference 2499, was in production from 1986 until 2004. Reference 3970 is an ever popular model in demand at Christie's's auctions as its size and complications offer a perfect combination for astute collectors.

Reference 3970 is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 305.
