Lot Essay

US$15,000-25,000

With Rolex letter stating that the watch was supplied to Official Rolex Retailer Messrs Saddik & Mohammed Atta of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1973.

The present watch, preserved in excellent overall condition, is a rare example as it features in red Arabic script, the name of Hafez Al-Assad, the late President of Syria and father of Syria's current President, Bashar Al-Assad. The watch bears Hafez Al-Assad's signature on the dial, and is believed to be one of a few examples ordered from Rolex by the late President, usually offered to close friends and officials. Personalized features, such as the President's signature on the dial, are for obvious reasons hard finds and therefore sought-after by Rolex collectors.
