A VERY RARE SMALL KINRANDE FACETTED DOUBLE-GOURD VASE
JAIJING SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1522-1566)
The main body of the vase is potted with eight facetted sides below a conforming waisted neck and upper body tapering to a high neck. It is finely decorated in iron red, green, turquoise and yellow enamels with four iron-red circular medallion on the main body, reserved on the iron-red diaper ground further embellished with gilt. The upper body is similarly decorated with four quatrefoil panels below bladed leaves around the upper neck.

Lot Essay

It is very rare to find Kinrande examples with reign marks such as the present vase. Evidentaly, a limited number of vessels of this decorative style were probably made for the Ming Court rather than for the export market.
