LATE QING DYNASTY, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY
The group is finely modelled in high relief and openwork to depict a standing Daoist immortal, with a gentle sway to one side. The deity is holding close to her body a branch of floral spray and is dressed in a voluminous robe falling in folds to the ground. Accompanied beside a mythical long tailed phoenix, carved standing with one claw on an ornamental rock. The stone is suffused with areas of apple-green streaks and reserving areas of amber-yellow to highlight the design of the bird.
