Lot Essay

The present gueridon was executed by the firm of Jacob Frères, Rue Meslée, the two sons of the celebrated menuisier Georges Jacob (d.1814), Georges II Jacob (d.1803) and François-Honoré-Georges Jacob (d.1841) during their collaboration from 1796-1803.
A virtually identical gueridon, with variation only to the marble top, was supplied to Impératrice Joséphine and is in the collections of the Malmaison (and reproduced here).
