Lot Essay

Ernst August Leuteritz was employed at Meissen from 1836-1886 as a designer and later as Director of the modeling department. He developed this type of enameled decoration in the mid-19th century in response to renewed interest in the Renaissance style.

See 1910 Meissen Tradesmen's Catalogue, plate 53 for an example of the model. Also compare the example with minor variations to the decoration sold Christie's, New York, 20 April 2005, lot 265.
