Further details
This figure, with its prominent face, of high cheekbones and raised scarification punctuated by large, spherical eyes framed by neatly carved, arching brows and the inclusion of a naturalistic coiffure of plaited fibers, are all hallmarks of the mastercarved so-named 'The Vérité Master' by Bernard de Grunne, as one of the first and most-well known sculptures by this hand (see Homberger and Fischer, Afrikanishe Meister, Rietberg Museum, 2014, pp.98-100)

Lot Essay
