Lot Essay

Reference 16660 is a rare transitional model, produced from 1978 until the late 1980's. Rolex introduced the Sea-Dweller reference 1665 in 1967, produced as a professional diving watch, with a patented helium escape valve in the band and a 610m depth rating. For the first few years of production of the 16660, it was produced alongside the reference 1665, and production of the 1665 ended in 1980. The 16660 featured a new caliber, the 3035, replacing the 1575 in the reference 1665, as well as a larger and improved helium gas escape valve in the band and a depth rating of 1220m.
