This work will be included in the Max Liebermann Catalogue raisonné of pastels, watercolours and gouaches currently being prepared by Drs Margreet Nouwen.

This pastel is related to two oil sketches and two finished paintings on the subject, painted in 1898, one of which is today in St. Petersburg, Eremitage (Eberle 1898/4).
