Making Room
Ronald Phillips Ltd. has been in business for over 60 years. Having started in South Kensington in a small showroom on The Old Brompton Road employing just one person, we are now in extensive showrooms at 26 Bruton Street, Mayfair, employing twelve people. Along the way many thousands of pieces of furniture have been acquired, some of which are featured in this sale.
As the business grows and continues to be successful we find ourselves focusing much more on important items and this has meant we need to create some space – both in the showrooms and in the warehouses. As with any other antique dealer, we have always purchased more than we need or could ever need.
Last year we moved to a much smaller warehouse and this is when we decided to put many of the surplus items into a sale at Christie’s. There are plenty of items which have been buried for over 30 years, as well as some old favourites, which now need to find new homes – at extremely attractive prices.
I am not going to draw your attention to any item in particular as there really are items for everyone and the estimates are priced accordingly. Amongst the 300 odd lots there are a couple of mistakes, which are clearly catalogued and have come from serious sources. There are items that are unrestored, un-upholstered, and others that are in showroom condition and ready to go.
I must stress that it is still business as usual in Bruton Street – we have just released our latest catalogue with about 140 fresh items. We are also exhibiting at the Masterpiece Fair at the Royal Hospital site at the end of June and in October will be at the Armory in New York at The International Fine Art and Antiques Dealers Show.
