Lot Essay

The Pantheon and Piazza appear from the same angle in a rectangular etching made after Cruyl, which served as an illustration to the fourth volume of J.G. Graevius' Thesaurus Antiquitatum Romanarum, printed in Utrecht and Leiden in 1697 (B. Jatta, Lievin Cruyl e la sua opera grafica, Brussels, 1992, no. 26S).
