8° (161 x 98mm). Polyglot text in Latin, German, French and Italian. Engraved title and 80 circular engraved emblems within square frames. (Without final blank, a few tiny wormtracks sometimse repaired.) Late 19th-century blue morocco, gilt spine, gilt turn-ins and edges. Provenance: Robert Hoe (bookplate) -- [H. Yates Thompson] -- A.H. Bright (bookplate).
THE HOE - YATES THOMPSON - BRIGHT COPY. In the same year another edition of the same work was published with the title Ocotoginta emblemata moralia nova. The book was apparently intended as a Liber amicorum, each leaf being printed on one side only with the versos left blank. The finely engraved round emblems, showing all conditions of human life, show great variety and charm. Landwehr German, 214; not in Faber du Faur.
