8° (151 x 92mm). Engraved throughout, 92 leaves printed on only one side, including frontispiece, title and 44 numbered copperplates by Jan van Vianen. (Light, mainly marginal finger soiling or very light spotting.) Blue morocco by Zaehnsdorf, gilt ruled border on sides with foliate cornerpieces, each corner with small green morocco onlay, repeated in each of five spine compartments, the other two lettered in gilt, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges. Provenance: Earl of Mexborough (bookplate) – A. H. Bright (bookplate, dated 1912).

AN ATTRACTIVE COPY. The verses facing the plates are written in Latin, Italian, French and Dutch. The derivation of the plates (and the Latin and Italian texts) can be traced back to the Amorum emblemata of Vaenius. Other sources are Heinsius's Emblemata amatoria, and Thronus cupidinis. Sometimes confused with Emblems of Love by Philip Ayres, which also draws on Vaenius. Landwehr Low Countries, 216; Praz p. 323; Wing E-703A.
