It is interesting to note the relatively late example of putting maker's mark on handle on third mug but as Ley has re-used his pre-1697 mark he was obviously following old habits

Plain baluster form with leaf-capped handle, base initialled E*M; also a similar but larger George III mug by John King, London, 1770, front engraved with large foliated initials CG; and a George II mug by Timothy Ley, (Grimwade no. 3843) London, 1729, with later-applied initialled oval boss to front, plain thumbpiece to handle
