Of cylindrical form with loop handle, the pierced and engraved silver mounted rim with scratch weight marks and indistinct stamps above and below, the engraved cartouche depicting the arms and crest of Sir Jacob Astley and Lucy Le Strange

Lot Essay

The engraved arms and crest are those 3rd Baronet Astley (1692-1760) of Hill Morton and Melton Constable and his wife, Lucy L'Estrange, (1699-1739), the youngest daughter of Sir Nicholas L’Estrange, 4th Bt., M.P.. Jacob Astley married his first wife in 1721 and went on to marry twice more after her death.
