Lot Essay

This must be a somewhat early work given the handling which differs from the distinctive style he would formulate later in life. Cox made his first trip to Wales in 1805 and therefore presumably the work offered here is datable to around this time executed most probably in the first decade of the 19th century The influence of John Varley, with whom he took lessons from 1808 is evident in the depiction of the distant mountains.
