Lot Essay
Born in Wimbledon in 1904, Cllifford Rowe studied at the WImbledon School of Art and Royal College. By 1931 he was making designs for Communist Party publications, which led to him spending 18 months on design work in the Soviet Union. In 1934 he helped establish the Artist's International Association, and from 1945 his work included publicity commissions for the Attlee Labour Government and Trade Unions.
