Lot Essay

Georges Girardot was trained by the artist Albert Maignan in Paris. He was a member of the Society of French painters from 1883 onward and principally showed genre scenes at the Salon. He was awarded several medals for his works. This painting is a beautiful example of Girardot’s interest in mythological figures, he must have been attracted by the enigma surrounding divine spirits such as water nymphs.
