Lot Essay

Wei Zhike, a Ming dynasty painter, was born in present-day Nanjing. He and his elder brother, Huang, sold paintings for a living. Wei Zhike was especially skilled in poetry composition, landscape painting after the Song-Yuan masters, and flower painting. His works are heralded for their beautiful brushwork; soft, delicate use of color; and elegant composition.
