NORTHERN SONG-JIN DYNASTY, 11TH-12TH CENTURY
The bowl has deep, rounded sides and is raised on a small, circular foot. The interior is carved with a graceful, leafy stem bearing a large flower below the unglazed rim. The bowl is covered inside and out with a glaze of ivory tone that continues over the foot onto the flat base.

Lot Essay

A very similar carved Dingyao bowl of slightly larger size (10 cm.) is illustrated by R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, vol. 1, London, 1994, pp. 204-5, no. 361.
