A CARVED RED LACQUER LOBED BOX AND COVER
18TH CENTURY
The top of the cover is carved with a scene of two scholars inspecting a scroll painting while an attendant holding a staff tied with another scroll stands to the side in a landscape setting within a border formed by four ruyi-shaped bands of key fret within a petal-lappet border. The sides of the cover and box have lobes that conform to the shape of the ruyi-head border, and each is decorated with a panel of antiques surrounded by dense foliate scroll.
