A WHITE JADE 'SANYANG' BELT BUCKLE
18TH CENTURY
The buckle is finely carved as three recumbent goats (sanyang), the largest with head turned backwards as vapor supporting a yinyang symbol issues from its mouth towards one of the smaller goats on its rump, while the other nestles beside its front legs. A flat, animal-mask hook and a circular stud are on the concave reverse, where there is some fine black speckling in the finely polished, semi-translucent white stone.
4 in. (10.2 cm.) wide, wood stand
