A POLYCHROME LACQUER PENCASE (QALAMDAN)
SIGNED LUTF ‘ALI SHIRAZI, QAJAR IRAN, MID 19TH CENTURY
With rounded ends and sliding tray, the top and sides with polychrome and gold floral decoration inhabited with birds painted on black ground, with two roundels on the lid with pairs of ducks set against a European architectural background, further paired roundels on either side with boating scenes with similar architectural backgrounds, the tray and underside in black with borders of scrolling vine, signed to the right of the right hand roundel on the lid
