QAJAR IRAN, 19TH CENTURY
Arabic manuscript of ivory paper, 228ff. plus 4 fly-leaves, each folio with 21ll. of neat black naskh, gold and polychrome verse roundels, text panels outlined in gold, black and blue, double black outer rules, catchwords, the upper outer corners with small medallions framing the names of the sura, the inner corners with similar medallions with indications used when the Qur'an was used for divination, gold and polychrome illuminated medallions in the margins marking hizb, sajjda and nisf, sura headings in red on gold illuminated panels, opening bifolio with dense gold and polychrome illumination surrounding 7ll. of naskh in clouds reserved against gold ground, colophon with probably added signature of 'Abdullah bin Ashur and the date of 1210, in contemporaneous lacquer binding decorated with a gold floral lattice on green ground within black floral borders, doublures maroon with black borders, overall good condition
