On the seven readings of the Qur’an, Arabic manuscript on paper, 168ff. plus two fly-leaves, each folio with 16ll. of black naskh script, titles, phrases and occasional words picked out in red, with marginal comments, catchwords, colophon dated, text followed by another short tafsir, dated 11 Muharram AH 1059 and signed ‘Abbas bin Muhammad Shir (?) Sawwar, fine seal impression on first folio possibly that of the scribe ‘Abbas bin Muhammad Shir Sawwar in 18th or 19th century probably Persian stamped and tolled reddish brown morocco binding

Lot Essay

Abu ‘Amr ‘Uthman bin Sa’id bin ‘Uthman al-Dani is recorded in Al-A’lam, vol.4, p.206. He was an Andalusian author who travelled to Egypt and went on pilgrimage to the Holy Sites. He died in al-Andalus. Over 100 of his works are recorded. The present treatise on the Seven Readings, Al-Taysir, is the first recorded by Al-A’lam.
