AN EGYPTIAN PAINTED WOOD SARCOPHAGUS LID FRAGMENT
PTOLEMAIC PERIOD, CIRCA 332-30 B.C.
Decorated with a winged Isis with outstretched wings and holding Maat feathers, a mummification scene below, which is under the horizontal blue sign symbolising the sky, with Anubis holding a tapering vessel above the mummy's head, the mummy lying on a lion bed, with four canopic jars underneath and flanked by Isis on the left in front of an Isis knot, a djed pillar and Nephthys on the right in front of a lotus flower, five columns of hieroglyphs below, protected by a snake wearing the crown of Lower Egypt on the left
