Lot Essay

Auguste Moreau, son of the painter Jean-Baptiste and younger brother of sculptor Mathurin, first showed at the Salon of 1861, and continued to participate through the early 20th century. The present group, representing dawn astride her chariot and supported by putti, could possibly be a reduction of the bronze 'L’Aurore’ shown at the Salon of 1893.
