Rectangular box, the cover set with a panel of glazed interwoven hair applied with raised intertwined pearl and turquoise set gothic initials LG, the sides and hinged base set with panels of blue-coloured aventurine quartz within chased vari-colour gold foliate borders, the cover set with a mirror, the interior fitted with an oblong similarly decorated hinged compartment, the base with a shallow compartment for patches and set with a mirror, in fitted shagreen case

The initials LG are most probably for Louise-Claudine Grand (1745-1796), second daughter of Isaac-Jean-Georges-Jonas Grand (ca. 1715-1793), who was Baron d'Esnon, Count of Premartin and Bourgogne, and banker to the French court in Amsterdam.
