Lot Essay

The collection includes a number of novelty slides illustrating scenes from plays and stories along with humorous images and slides designed to frighten the viewer such as the Diableries number 62. La Guerre, Retour en Enfer. Subject matter is mostly topographical with views of Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and the UK. Includes a souvenir box in the shape of a book containing an incomplete set of Underwood & Underwood's stereoscopic views of Switzerland.
