FIRST EDITION, A FINE COPY. As envoy extraordinaire of Louis XIV La Loubère travelled to Siam in company with Jesuit mathematician Guy Tachard and French East India Company representative C.C. Céberet du Boullay. Descriptions of the culture, arts, customs and domestic life are followed by a survey of Siam’s rulers, military and judicial systems, with Vol. II largely devoted to the sciences of botany, linguistics, astronomy and mathematics, notably the ‘magic squares’ method of computation introduced from India.
