Lot Essay

In 1879, Cleenewerck travelled to San Francisco visiting and sketching nearby Yosemite as well as making visits to the state of Colorado. He later exhibited 'Yosemite Trail' at the National Academy in New York in 1882. It is believed that he travelled between America and Europe extensively between 1880 and 1900 and subsequently exhibited 'Yosemite Valley' and 'Paper Mill Creek' at the Salon in 1893.
