A SMALL YELLOW AND RUSSET JADE CARVING OF AN ELEPHANT
SONG/MING DYNASTY (960-1644)
The recumbent elephant is carved in the round with its trunk curled to one side and its tail flicked to the same side. The animal is pierced on the back with two small holes for suspension. The pale yellow stone is softly polished with dark russet veining and areas of brown and light caramel inclusions.
