Lot Essay

The bust of the Juno Ludovisi is the only surviving portion of a monumental sculpture thought to modeled after Antonia Minor, daughter of Octavia Minor and Marc Anthony and mother of the Emperor Claudius. It was likely a political commission by Claudius.
