Lot Essay

The yacht was designed by Arthur E. Payne A.M.I.N.A. and built in 1908 by Pommers & Payne from drawings supplied by the owner Mr A. St. George Caulfield. She was built for cruising, winter and summer, in the waters of Christchurch Bay and the Needles Passage.
White Kitten is thought to be the first yacht on the South Coast to use a Kelvin Petrol/Parafin engine and a Bergius folding propellor and with this arrangement could achieve and maintain a speed of 5 knots. This combination had been in use in yachts on the Clyde for about 10 years previously.
